Trains Unlimited, Tours has a new tour scheduled for June 25-26, 2007: the Nevada Northern Steam Spectacular. This is a Railfan/Tourist tour open to everyone. The Nevada Northern Railroad is the last Nevada Bonanza mining line left and perhaps the best preserved shortline in the old Wild West. This railroad has been preserved in its original state, from the workshops, stations, yards, rolling stock and motive power in East Ely, Nevada.
This two day event will feature photo run-bys each day. Although this event is being operated for the Garden Scale Convention attendees (being held in Las Vegas June 27-30, 2007) this tour is open to everyone, not just conventioneers. On June 25 charter motorcoaches depart from the Hotel Riveria in Las Vegas for the journey north to East Ely. Upon arrival in East Ely, transfer to the waiting mixed train pulled by No. 93 for an afternoon run on the Keystone Line running up to the old copper mine. Plenty of photo run-bys will be operated in scenic locations both directions. Upon arrival back in East Ely there will be time to explore the historic old workshops and running shed. After the workshop visits, guests will transfer to nearby lodging. On June 26, board another charter train at the historic East Ely depot for a run north on the mainline and then up the hiline to the site of the old KCC copper mill at McGill. Again, photo run-bys will be operated for the cameras. Upon arrival back in East Ely guests board charter motorcoaches for the return journey south to Las Vegas. Prices are $495 ppdo. Single supplement is $49 and children 4-12 are $345.

Vist Santa

Traditional Christmas
Departure: 22-28/Dec/20067 days
6 nights from $1239
From $1239 per person double occupancy

Come and celebrate Christmas as the Finns do. The Hotel Kalevala offers for a whole family an authentic Christmas feeling – a landscape of snow, Finnish Christmas traditions, traditional Christmas cuisine. Christmas land - with Santa and his elves, cross-country skiing, dog-sledge riding, snowmobile safaris… The former Christmas traditions are still taken care of and appreciated in the Christmas programme; fresh baked cookies, a promenade in the forest to find a Christmas tree, singing Christmas songs...
Itinerary
Day 1: 22.Dec.
Evening-flight to Kajaani airport where Santa's friendly elves are welcoming you. Transfer to Kuhmo takes about an hour. Accommodation in double rooms in the hotel Kalevala decorated for Christmas. Welcoming drink by the fire and dinner at the restaurant. From the restaurant you have a great view over the frozen lake and snow covered surroundings.
Day 2:
23.Dec.After breakfast get-together with your Christmas host who informs you about the Christmas programme and optional activities. You will spend the morning with outdoor activities. The skiing tracks start directly from the hotel and it is a great way to explore the white lakeside forest. In the afternoon when making of Christmas decorations the children will plan together with the Christmas host a special Christmas Eve programme. In the afternoon a walk through the snowy road to meet Santa Claus and his elves at Santa’s Office. Enjoy a nice walk along a forest trail in a beautiful and tranquil land of snow, unspoilt panoramas of pine trees. The trail is full of surprises and lit by ice candles and open fires; during the trail walk, music and singing performances with Santa's elves. Gingerbread will be served in the Santa's workshop, and there is also a possibility to learn how to make gingerbread yourself. In the Forest Lodge you all enjoy hot juice and hear more Christmas stories from elves. Finally, see the children's eyes sparkle with delight and excitement when they meet Santa Claus. In this Christmas fantasy time stops still and children will experience something which will long remain vivid in their memories. In the evening there is the option to enjoy a sauna and swimming. Later you will be taken by bus to a Christmas Concert at the Kuhmo Arts Centre where young musicians from Kuhmo music school play the most famous Christmas songs. Dinner is served afterwards in the hotel.
Day 3:
24.Dec. - Christmas EveAfter breakfast those who want can try baking Christmas pastries with Christmas elves. The traditional Christmas porridge is not forgotten and is served at the hotel; who finds the almond hidden into the porridge will get a prize! Children can go and help with finding a Christmas tree in the forest and afterwards with decorating it. In the afternoon bus transfer to the grave yard of Kuhmo. Everyone can light a candle for their love ones far away. During the visit children can stay at the hotel with the Christmas host and practise the Christmas Eve programme. A sauna bath before the splendid buffet dinner is part of the game. Dinner is followed by traditional Finnish Christmas program; singing and a visit of Santa Claus (Joulupukki). Get-together by the fireplace in the evening rounds up the day. Late evening snack-buffet in the hotel.
Day 4:
25.Dec.- Christmas DayThe Christmas day brunch is set at 08 – 13.00. If you wake up earlier there is a bus transfer for Christmas morning church.
