8 Days $995 Canadian Rockies and Glacier Park

Itinerary

Day 1 – Calgary, Alberta, Canada
See some of Canada’s grandest sights! Your vacation begins in Calgary, the heart of western Canada. Here, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. Calgary is the closest international gateway to both the Canadian Rockies and Glacier Park. Transfer from Calgary Airport by hotel courtesy shuttle to your hotel. Rooms are available for check in after 3:00 p.m. If you drive to Calgary, Caravan has arranged free hotel parking (automobiles only) for the length of the tour. Join Caravan for an 8:00 p.m. welcome briefing.

Day 2 – Waterton Park Lake Cruise

Journey south through Alberta. Pass by ancient buffalo jump cliffs. Next, stop at the town where Brokeback Mountain was filmed. Then, enter Waterton Lakes. You are now in the world’s first International Peace Park, formed in 1932 by combining Waterton Lakes Park in Canada with Glacier Park in Montana. Together, these parks form Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, a celebration of the longstanding friendship between Canada and the United States. Canada’s 5,000 mile border with the U.S. is the longest undefended border in the world. Afternoon cruise on picturesque Waterton Lake. Look for mountain goats, elk, bear and big horn sheep. Overnight on the shores of Waterton Lake at your hotel in charming downtown Waterton. Enjoy dinner. BD

Day 3 – Glacier National Park, Montana

Cross the border into Montana. Your entire day is devoted to exploring the wonders of Glacier National Park. Board the world famous “Red Jammers,” restored vintage touring coaches from the 1930’s. Journey on the spectacular “Going-to-the-Sun” highway into the heart of Glacier National Park (weather and road conditions permitting). See St. Mary’s Lake and the majestic Garden Wall, the cliff that makes up the central Continental Divide. Cross over Logan Pass. Look for wildlife. Stop at Lake McDonald. Continue to Montana’s beautiful Flathead Valley, a favorite second home to many Hollywood stars. Overnight in Kalispell. B

Day 4 – Banff, Canada

This morning travel north via the town of Whitefish. Then, journey into northwest Montana through some of the wildest remaining natural habitat in the United States. Montanans who live here share their backyards with black bears, cougars, wolves, moose and elk. Cross the border into British Columbia, Canada. Continue to your centrally located hotel in downtown Banff. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay surrounded by the wild beauty of 2,500 square mile Banff Park. B

Day 5 – Banff, Bow River Float

This morning, drive along the shores of Lake Minnewanka for a photo stop at Two Jack Lake. Stop at Bow River Falls. Then (weather permitting) enjoy a float trip on the scenic Bow River. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound. Return to Banff. Your afternoon is at leisure in Banff. Your Banff hotel is ideally located adjacent to restaurants, shops and galleries. B

Day 6 – Icefield Snowcoach, Jasper

Waterfalls, glacier lakes and snow-capped mountains line this morning’s drive along Icefields Parkway. Photo stop at beautiful turquoise-colored Peyto Lake. Then, take a snowcoach ride on the Athabasca Glacier in the Columbia Icefield (weather permitting). The meltwater from the Columbia Icefield feeds streams that flow into three oceans: the Arctic, the Atlantic, and the Pacific. Here, you may walk on the icefield. Then, to Jasper. Free time to explore this charming small town. Your hotel is nestled in the midst of the vast, unspoiled grandeur of 4,200 square mile Jasper Park, Canada’s largest park. Designated a World Heritage Site, the park contains beautiful Alpine scenery and abundant wildlife. Enjoy dinner. BD

Day 7 – Icefields Parkway, Lake Louise

Another glorious day on the world famous Icefields Parkway, this time travelling south. Each direction offers unique views. Photo stop at Athabaska Falls, which plunges into a steep limestone gorge. Next, visit beautiful Lake Louise with its glacier fed turquoise water from Victoria Glacier. Then, descend to the Great Plains of Canada. Return to Calgary. Farewell dinner. BD
